SMS was founded on a shared passion for operational excellence and a desire to solve the real-world quality challenges faced by modern manufacturing companies.

The journey began inside one of the largest automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Pete Williams started his career on the shop floor as a control inspector. Through hard work and a keen eye for detail, he climbed the ranks to become a Quality Assurance Manager. In this role, Pete led large teams and managed internal Quality Management Systems (QMS), consistently hitting strict Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for defect reduction.

Working for the very same automotive giant was Craig Wood. Craig started his career as a Q-Zone Product Quality (PQ) Manager. He quickly progressed through the ranks to Team Leader, eventually becoming a Senior Process Area Manager.

While working together, Pete and Craig often talked about how to improve quality containment and third-party inspection processes. After a few years of collaboration, they decided to combine their deep industry skills and knowledge to launch SMS.

To bring their business vision to life, they teamed up with Adam Smith. Adam was already working as an expert recruiter within the automotive sector. With his strong background in business administration and talent acquisition, Adam was the perfect final piece of the puzzle. The three professionals joined forces, and SMS was officially born.

Established in 2020, SMS has grown from strength to strength. Today, we proudly support the Automotive, Rail, and Aerospace sectors across the North East.
